Reporting to the General Manager, ICT, the job holder is responsible for leading the strategy design, implementation, and operation of robust digital infrastructure solutions that support the KenGen business objectives. This role ensures the security, scalability, and efficiency of IT systems and infrastructure across all regions

Job Description

a. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the management and optimization of digital infrastructure, including servers, networks, cloud platforms, and storage solutions.
2. Planning, designing and implementing ICT Infrastructure Systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of all digital infrastructure components.
3. Provide and maintain a robust network infrastructure, including WAN, LAN, WiFi, Internet, and VLAN, to support business operations and ensure reliable connectivity.
4. Administering and providing technical support for Plant Control Systems including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and related applications.
5. Maintain relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and other stakeholders.
6. Oversee, manage, and plan the digital Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and incident management processes to ensure quick recovery and minimal disruption during system failures or emergencies.
7. Develop, manage and monitor the digital infrastructure budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost control.
8. Implement monitoring systems and metrics to evaluate the performance of digital infrastructure.
9. Continually adopt emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure infrastructure meets future business needs.
10. Coordinate continual improvement and compliance with Safety, Quality Management System and Environmental Management System in the Section.
11. Ensure compliance with industry best practices, statutory and regulatory standards.
12. Facilitate preparation, monitoring and absorption of budget for the Division
13. Preparation and monitoring of procurement plans
14. Recommend and or approve procurement processes and professional opinions
15. Prepare and submit periodic reports in a timely manner
16. Performance evaluation of employees
17. Lead, develop and mentor their teams
18. Ensure adherence to quality, occupational health and safety standards

b. Person specifications

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:

1. At least twelve (12) years relevant with at least four (4) years in Management role in a large organization.
2. Master of Science Degree in Computer Science or Information Communication Technology from a recognized institution
3. Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or Information Communication Technology from a recognized institution
4. Professional certifications in infrastructure management (e.g., CCNP, ITIL, Microsoft Certified, Cloud Solutions Architect or equivalent)
5. Experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects and vendor contracts.
6. Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components, including networking, servers, storage, and cloud technologies.
7. Be a member of a relevant professional body in good standing
8. Meet the requirements of leadership and integrity as prescribed in Chapter 6 of the constitution of Kenya.
9. Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from recognized institutions.
