Job Summary

Reporting to the Managing Director & CEO, the job holder is responsible for leading and providing overall strategic leadership and guidance to the Accounting Officer by ensuring effective end to end procurement and disposal of goods, works, services, inventory management, asset disposal, compliance enablement, reporting and optimal utilization of Company’s resources.

Job Description

Duties and responsibilities
  1. Leading in the development and implementation of Supply Chain Management business policies, procedures and actively participating in the development of KenGen Corporate Strategy.
  2. Developing a procurement plan with a strong focus on strategic buying and monitoring the budget estimate; heading Tender Secretariat as the Secretary of Tender Committee and undertaking review of the tender documents.
  3. Collaborate with the Projects, Operations and Geothermal teams in ensuring support in new and maintenance with just in time material supply
  4. Lead the disposal committee as the Secretary in ensuring timely approval of obsolete unserviceable, and idle assets.
  5. Overseeing the maintenance of good suppliers’ relationships management of both local and overseas; Developing accountability structures, overseeing periodic reporting and monitoring the performance indicators for Contracts, Procurement and Logistics.
  6. Initiating and innovating strategies for managing inventory levels that optimize consignment stocking, framework contracts, strategic spares contracts geared to create value for money.
  7. Recommending to the Managing Director & CEO on Tender Opening, Evaluation, Negotiation Teams, Inspection and Acceptance Committees.
  8. Providing advisory/professional opinion to the Accounting Officer and all procurement and asset disposal matters.
  9. Develop strong relationship with suppliers, contractors, and service providers to build a reliable supply base.
  10. Custodian of supply chain management contract documents
  11. Preparing statutory reports to PPRA.
  12. Preparing, implementing, and monitoring of departmental budget and procurement plan
  13. Drive innovation in the department to ensure it adapts to current trends and technology
  14. Coaching, mentoring, and developing employees using relevant human resource tools
  15. Lead with an innovative mindset that fosters a culture of creativity, continuous improvement and forward-thinking solutions.
  16. Ensuring adherence to quality, occupational health, and safety standards

Person specifications
  1. At least fifteen (15) years experience in a relevant field, with at least five (5) years as senior manager in a large organization.
  2. Masters degree from a recognized Institution
  3. Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Economics, Commerce, Business Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  4. Post graduate diploma in Supply Chain Management.
  5. Be a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) or Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) in good standing.
  6. Demonstrated high performance and leadership in previous roles.
  7. Meet the requirements of leadership and integrity as prescribed in Chapter 6 of the constitution of Kenya.
  8. Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from recognized institutions.
